Breast & Body Contouring

Gynecomastia (Male Breast) Surgery

গাইনেকোমাস্টিয়া (ছেলেদের বড় স্তন) সার্জারি

Reducing enlarged male breast tissue for a flatter, firmer chest when it does not settle on its own.

Medical review in progress — patient information, not a substitute for a consultation.

Overview

Gynecomastia is enlargement of the breast tissue in men. It is common in teenagers, often settling with time, but can persist. Causes include hormonal changes, some medicines, weight gain and, rarely, underlying disease — which should be checked. When it persists and causes embarrassment, surgery can remove the extra gland and fat.

What it addresses

  • Persistent enlargement of one or both male breasts
  • Puffy nipples
  • Embarrassment avoiding sports, swimming or fitted clothes

Who may be a candidate

  • Men and older teenagers whose chest has not settled over time
  • Those at a stable weight, after medical causes have been reviewed

Treatment options

  1. 01Excision of glandular tissue through a small incision at the edge of the areola
  2. 02Liposuction for fatty enlargement
  3. 03Skin reduction for large or sagging chests

Benefits & limitations

  • A flatter chest contour and greater confidence
  • Weight gain or certain medicines can cause recurrence

Every patient is different. Results vary and no outcome can be guaranteed; your surgeon will discuss what is realistic for you.

Consultation & assessment

At Central Hospital, Dhanmondi, Dr. Masum takes a full history, examines the area of concern and — only with your permission — takes clinical photographs for your file. He explains which options suit you, including non-surgical ones where they are appropriate, together with the expected recovery, possible risks and the cost, so that you can decide without pressure.

Please bring previous prescriptions, investigation reports and a list of the medicines you take.

Preparing for surgery

  1. 1Tell the surgeon about diabetes, high blood pressure, heart or kidney disease and any allergies.
  2. 2Mention blood thinners, aspirin or herbal supplements — some may need to be paused only on medical advice.
  3. 3Stop smoking well before surgery; it slows wound healing.
  4. 4Follow the fasting and medicine instructions you are given for the day of surgery.
  5. 5Arrange for a family member to accompany you and help at home for the first days.

The procedure

Usually done under general anaesthesia. Gland tissue is removed through a small cut around the lower edge of the nipple area, often combined with liposuction to smooth the contour.

Recovery & aftercare

A compression vest is worn for several weeks. Office work is often possible within a week; avoid heavy exercise for about a month.

Possible risks

  • Contour irregularity
  • Fluid collection (seroma)
  • Altered nipple sensation
  • Bleeding or a collection of blood under the skin (haematoma)
  • Infection
  • Delayed wound healing or wound breakdown
  • Scarring that is more noticeable than expected
  • Risks related to anaesthesia
